Top 7 Easter Desserts

Forget the candy, give us Dessert!

Easter is known for more than food and desserts, but we cannot overlook the deliciousness that sits on the dessert table as we eat our Easter lunch. Again, searching the world wide web and asking our crew, we have put our top 7 favorite Easter desserts on a list to share with you. None of them are over complicated and they are extremely scrumptious. Even if it isn’t Easter/spring season these would be great additions to any meal.

Top 7

  1. Carrot Cake

Carrot cake came about during WWII when carrots were introduced as natural sweeteners for cake recipes. Then in the 1970s dieting craze carrot cake became super popular as a healthier choice. The reality is carrot cake is not healthier than the next cake. The bottom line is Carrot cake is a spice cake with carrots and cream cheese frosting. You can even throw in some toasted pecans if you like that sorta thing. Be sure to grate your own carrots. Pre-shredded carrots have a difficult time breaking down and adding the sweetness you are looking for.

  2. Strawberry Shortcake(Trifle)

An authentic trifle will have pudding as part of the recipe. However, a strawberry shortcake truffle just uses angel food cake, strawberries, and cool whip. Layer these ingredients in your favorite trifle dish and refrigerate. It is a light fresh dessert that screams Springtime! If you are not into layering trifle dishes you could serve the angel food cake, strawberries, and cool whip on a dessert plate.

  3. Strawberry Pie

Speaking of desserts that are light, Strawberry Pie is awesome for those warm days when you want something sweet to cool you off. You can add fresh strawberries to a store-bought filling or you can make your own. Fill up your pie crust and refrigerate for a few hours. Sever when the filling has firmed up top with a healthy spoonful of cool whip!

  4. Banana Pudding

Is it even springtime or Easter without banana pudding? This is a classic and a fan favorite everywhere. There is however a little controversy. Should it have pudding or not? We know, it has pudding in the name what do you mean? Oh, trust us, we put pudding in our recipe! However, some of the guys talk about a homemade banana pudding that was cooked in the oven with meringue! Cooked, really!?! Lane’s Banana Pudding

  5. Lemon Pie

Talk about another fresh light dessert for the spring pallet! Sometimes referred to as an icebox lemon pie this recipe is easy and delicate. The lemon flavor will give you that tartness that makes your lips pucker but in a good way. And the meringue to top it off pushes this pie right over the edge to deliciousness.

  6. Pound Cake

This traditional cake is super simple. However, sometimes simple hits the taste buds the best. You could add ice cream or a fruit compote if you wanted to spruce things up. Pound cake got its name in the 1700s when the recipe called for one pound of each ingredient; flour, sugar, butter, and eggs. Nowadays you can find recipes that don’t require a pound of each ingredient, but if you have tried a pound cake made in a traditional way you might not want it any other way.

  7. Coconut Cream Pie

This pie is full of complex flavors, but it is “SO GOOD” as some people say. Thick coconut cream with a flakey crust topped with whipped cream! Not everyone likes coconut, but this is a must-try. This smooth silky coconut cream is heavenly and there aren’t really words to describe how good it actually is. Served cold it will definitely cool you down on even the hottest of days.

Do you leave room for dessert?

As kids, we were told we had to eat our meal first before we were allowed to eat dessert. However, these desserts might drive you to break the rules. If you are not a rule-breaker then we would suggest you eat in shifts to get all your desired entrees, sides, and desserts. Like those entrees and sides, each dessert has its own flavor that speaks for itself. If all these were on the table at Easter you might have a difficult time saying no. Here at Lane’s, we never pass up the opportunity for dessert!
