How to Grill a Beef Tenderloin

Whether you're a seasoned grill master or a backyard barbecue enthusiast, the process of grilling a beef tenderloin requires precision, patience, and the right techniques. In this guide, we'll explore the steps to achieve perfection on the grill.

Choosing the Right Cut:

Before diving into the grilling process, it's essential to select a high-quality beef tenderloin. You want to ensure that your beef is well-marbled and trimmed to perfection. The quality of the meat plays a crucial role in achieving a succulent and flavorful result.

Preparing the Beef Tenderloin:

  1. Prep: Remove from the fridge up to an hour before cooking
  2. Trimming and Tying: Begin by trimming any excess fat and silver skin from the beef tenderloin. To ensure even cooking, consider tying the tenderloin with kitchen twine at regular intervals.
  3. Base: Coat the tenderloin with mayo, olive oil, or Duck Fat spray.
  4. Seasoning: Liberally season the beef with a high-quality rub or seasoning. We offer a wide range of rubs that can add a depth of flavor to your beef tenderloin. Choose a seasoning that complements the natural richness of the meat. We recommend our Brisket Rub and Ancho Espresso Rub.

Grilling Process for a Beef Tenderloin:

  1. Preheat the Grill: Preheat the grill to 250°F at the grate.
  2. Indirect Cooking: Move the beef tenderloin to the grill and close the lid. Roast until the internal temp reaches 10 degrees less than your desired final temperature. Remove at 120 for desired medium rare cook.
  3. Resting Period #1: Remove the tenderloin and rest it while you raise the grill temp to 500-550 and change to a direct heat set up. Once you remove to rest, place 4 pieces of butter (unsalted) and lightly season again with the Brisket and Ancho Espresso rubs.
  4. Searing the Beef: Place the seasoned beef tenderloin on the preheated grill and sear each side for 1 minute to create a flavorful crust.
  5. Resting Period #2: Allow the beef tenderloin to rest another 15-20 minutes after the sear. Place the rest of the butter on top of the tenderloin while resting to create a fantastic board juice. Slice and serve.

By choosing the finest cuts, utilizing quality rubs and seasonings, and following the recommended grilling process, you'll be on your way to creating a mouthwatering beef tenderloin that will impress family and friends alike.
